Yeah, it’s that time of year again!
Cities of the Mind is undergoing some much-needed revamping in an attempt to keep up with the changing world wide web.
If you’re new, you’re going to notice a few things right away:
- It’s way simpler.
- Its focus has changed just a little.
- It might not be working at any given moment (sorry).
- All the featured images are gone.
Okay, so what’s going on? I’ve switched to framework theme, meaning that it’s a bare bones theme meant to be built upon. As we move forward, I’ll probably switch to a custom child version of this theme and do a bit of my own coding–depending on how much coding I want to learn for that purpose.
The other thing I’ve done is disable just about every plugin on the site. Plugins slow everything down, and if you’re not using them, they shouldn’t be running. As I need them again, I’ll turn them back on. But, basically, I’ve put the site on a diet.
So far, though, this decision has already brought some amazing benefits: The home page loads in a staggering 1.51-1.72 seconds in speed tests. That’s without a CDN! How crazy is that?
Anyway, thanks for hanging in there as Cities of the Mind gets taken apart, polished, and then put back together. And then taken apart again, and put together mostly right this time.
