a crazy couple weeks

Projects, Site Launches, Projects, and More Site Launches

As often happens in the summer, paid work has been slow. That means projects, because, well, not doing things is what crazy people do. Or was that the other way around? It’s actually an interesting question, right? Do I go crazy when I don’t have anything to do, or am I always crazy and I just don’t notice when I’m sufficiently distracted?

Well, hopefully you saw that I managed to get a new story up on the site, which was an effort of will. I’ve been doing a lot of moving. I’ve moved with my girlfriend. My parents and Gram have moved. I’m frankly very tired of packing things, moving things, and unpacking things. On the plus side I love my new location, and I’m really excited to have my parents and gram closer at hand in Prescott (and crazy jealous of their house)!

I’ve been busy writing content for two, yes, TWO, new blogs, and I’m really excited about both of them.

The first is an Arizona-themed travel blog. It’s not just Arizona, but that’s where I am these days, so it’s mostly Arizona. I went a route that’s questionable, by moving a way from a .com URL, and instead choosing Vagabond.Guide as the site name. We’ll see if that pays off in the end. In the mean time, I’ve got to get going on content for it, and trying to secure some sort of funding.

Project 1: Vagabond.Guide

The former is already underway, with a couple cool articles up about Canyon de Chelly, Arizona’s oldest continually inhabited site–we’re talking old like “before there were pyramids in Egypt” old, by the way. We got more than 50 Facebook likes in the first 24 hours, so I’m absolutely thrilled!

There’s also a Patreon up for Vagabond.Guide, with which I hope, but don’t especially expect, to get some crowdfunding going.

The next thing on the list is ZombieWashington.com:

Not the best drawing I've ever done, but somehow still the best drawing I've ever done.
Not the best drawing I’ve ever done, but somehow still the best drawing I’ve ever done.

This is a politics, ethics, culture, and pop culture blog, currently written by just me. I’ve got high hopes for this one, let me tell you! If nothing else, it’s got a hell of a name. It doesn’t have much content up yet, but it turns out I have lots to say, when I think about it–to the surprise of everyone, I’m sure. However, I want to take the time to research and source all the articles really well, since getting taken seriously with my general tone and blog name like Zombie Washington (which is an AWESOME name!) is a bit of an uphill battle.

I’ll Still be Here

I’ll still be working on Cities of the Mind, don’t get me wrong. I’ve got ideas and stuff. I mean, I always have ideas, more ideas than time, really . . . I don’t really think this site is ever going to be a high traffic venture or some sort of cash cow, though, so now seemed like a good time to branch out.

Anyway, I also have to, you know, make money while all this is going on, so things are going to get busy. Busy is good.

I’m bouncing back and forth between a few ideas for this site, and I’m not sure which, if any, is the right way to go. So we’ll see. And I’m going to just leave it there, for now.
